Details: We’ll have exclusive access to Herstmonceux Castle and its 600-acre estate. Explore the Elizabethan walled garden and the bluebell woods. Enjoy educational sessions with BISC faculty, musical entertainment, fine dining, and on-site tours at this first-ever Queen’s alumni weekend at the Castle. Accommodations are available in Bader Hall on the Castle grounds. Herstmonceux is only 80 minutes away by train from central London.

Itinerary for the weekend (subject to change)

Saturday, April 28

11:00 am - Arrival and check in
12:00 noon - Welcome lunch
1:30 pm - Tours of the Castle
2:30 pm - Faculty talk with Bruce Stanley: "From Beirut to Damascus by way of Mogadishu, Baghdad, Tripoli, and Jerusalem: Conflict Urbanism in the Middle East"
3:30 pm - Coffee break
4:00 pm - Faculty talk with John Keefe: "Acting up at the Castle: The Castle as experimental stage space"
5:00 pm - Free time
6:30 pm - Sparkling wine reception
7:00 pm - Semi-formal dinner
8:15 pm - Concert featuring Musicians in Residence Shelley Katz and Diana Gilchrist Katz
9:00 pm - Pub gathering in the Headless Drummer Pub

Sunday, April 29

8:00 am - Breakfast
9:30 am - Tour of the Castle grounds and a look at the Castle's archives with Dr. Scott McLean
11:00 am - Closing coffee reception

Getting to the Castle

Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from the castle.

Train: Herstmonceux Castle is 80 minutes outside of London by train. Polegate is the nearest train station. From the station, you can take a 15-minute taxi ride to the Castle.

 Car: For driving directions, please visit the Castle website at http://www.herstmonceux-castle.com/section.php/37/1/how_to_find_us **NOTE: do not use the postcode for the Castle if you are using a GPS – it will direct you to the closed entrance to the castle grounds.
