Dear fellow alumni,

I was very much looking forward to my visit to Beijing next week to attend meetings and an alumni reception with colleagues from the Matariki Network of Universities. During the time I had intended to be in Beijing, our Chancellor Dr. David Dodge was scheduled to represent me at our graduation ceremonies on campus. I have learned, however, that Chancellor Dodge is unexpectedly unable to fill this important role. After consultation with Queen’s senior leadership and Board Chair, I have decided that I must remain in Kingston for the sake of our graduates, their families and friends.

The reception to which you have been invited will go ahead as planned and Dr. Zhiyao Zhang, Queen’s-China Liaison Officer, will be in attendance.  I hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity to meet with other Queen’s alumni and those from our Matariki partners.

Please accept my apologies for this unfortunate change of scheduling.

Daniel Woolf

Principal and Vice-Chancellor

Matariki Network of Universities:  In 2010, Queen’s joined with six other “sister” institutions (the word “Matariki” is Maori for the constellation of the Pleiades, or Seven Sisters), to form an international network of leading and like-minded universities with the goal of facilitating cooperation on everything from research and international exchanges to social responsibility projects and cultural activities. The six sister universities are: Dartmouth College in the United States, Durham University in England, University of Otago in New Zealand, University of Tübingen in Germany, University of Western Australia in Australia, and Uppsala University in Sweden.
