Toronto Over 50 Group - See the Queen's Debating Union in Toronto

"This event is now SOLD OUT. If you are still interested in the event, please contact the organizers below to be placed on a wait list in case spaces open up." Members of the planning group of the Queen's Toronto Alumni Over 50 Group met recently with the president of the Queen's University Debating Union (QDU).

As part of our discussion, we learned that the QDU is currently 11th in the World Debate ranking. This is an impressive achievement, especially when we consider the limited funding that is available to QDU for its very busy and highly competitive schedule. The QDU received $2,900 this year from the University, compared with $23,000 of institutional funding given to the University of Alberta team, which is ranked 10th.

As a result of this meeting, we invite you to observe the QDU as they participate in a debate tournament scheduled for the weekend of October 15-17 at the University of Toronto. Highly ranked teams from across North America will be participating.

Because interest in this event is significant, we are hoping to make arrangements to reserve a limited number of seats at the final day of the debate tournament at Hart House on Sunday, October 17.

The event will start at approximately 10 am and will end mid-afternoon. In view of the tournament's schedule, our plan is to reserve a room at Hart House where we can enjoy a light lunch together and then rejoin the debate activities when they recommence in the afternoon. We trust that, with our enthusiastic support, our Queen's team will win the tournament!
